TRIVIA #1: Thanks to notes on concept art, advertisement and data left in the debug menu we know that the first 4 stages where shuffled around quite a bit (the latter hints at 3-4-2-1-5), we don't know why, but the rushed development could be the culript.Īfter that ordeal you get to fight yet another monstruous result of the stolen data: the gigantic Metal Rear. If you go straight ahead, there's a not particularly noteworthy lava section instead, if you choose to head left you will stumble upon a field experiment gone awhire and get to fight the modified Slug Black Hound as a miniboss! That's how the stolen data has been put to use! After that you get a crawling space full of points for your efforts right before the boss. If you instead go down you get to ride the oh so sweet Slug Gunner through a corridor full of what might as well be fragile glass in comparison to your firepower, and curiously enough at the end, another fork in the road. After making use of the ludicrous fire power of the 2H, you get to head into the boss with an SV-001. If you choose to ignore the maggot-infested crawling space, you get to enjoy the only section in the whole game with a character transformation: the fat one. And then a following corridor full of fire-spewing walls, which leads to a split in the path: Upon entrance you get to manouver through a section full of deadly maggots, natives and a lowering spiked ceiling. through a river in the middle of the jungle.Īfter disposing of some Guerrilla soldiers and switching rafts you rather insensitively intrude in a temple crawling with natives and soldiers alike. Surprisingly enough you begin your adventure on a raft rowed by a P.O.W. Cool I guess? To be frank I'm not crazy about it, it messes up me trying to shoot down something fierce and I've never found it that useful, except for the Final Boss. I guess I should talk about the Slide-dash, since it's such a big addition to the already existing moveset (and 5 is its only appearance). Plus some new toys to play with: Slug Gunner, Slug Mobile and Augensterm (Spider Slug for short). The aforementioned Ptolemaic Army, a brand new player move, the Slide-dash. What this means in terms of the tone is that we're once again playing things a bit more straight, but things will get a little more crazy in due time during your playthrough. What's most shocking of all, the OG Rebel Army, Morden and the Mars People are nowhere to be found in this title, which is frankly pretty bonkers in their stead the Ptolemaic Army boasts brand new sprites for their infantry, which is an admirable effort and a very nice change of pace. This time around we are introduced to a yet again new military faction, the Ptolemaic Army: the basic gist is that they've stolen some super-duper blueprints of the Regular Army's next generation of Metal Slugs, and they also partake into supernatural research, concerning stuff, really.
